Seeds of Herbalism Mentorship spans 5 chapters provided over a 5 week period that includes videos, readings, resources and exercises, and a 3 hour weekly live Zoom virtual circle to further engage with the curriculum and each other. These Zoom circles provide a container for learning in community, and will include additional live lectures, medicine making demos, time for Q&A and sharing.
Seed ~ the introduction chapter where all of our personal and collective magic and uniqueness begins. You get to know us, the lands we teach from, the plants we cherish, and get comfortable and steady in your work and exploration of plant medicine. We share Herbalism from an anti-oppressive lens, and discuss how and why our practices and class space are dedicated to its values.
Grow ~ in our second chapter, we begin to study botany, examine wildcrafting ethics, plant identification, plant actions and energetics in a virtual, outdoor classroom. We discuss materia medica of locally growing plants, and explore several bioregions and the plants that inhabit them. We unpack and explore non-appropriative plant medicine that touches upon the emotional, energetic and spiritual gifts of the plants and parts of ourselves. We share our personal experiences navigating energetic medicines and provide tools for deepening and cultivating your own personal rituals and practices.
Flower ~ in our third chapter, we continue building and deepening our relationships with plants through the lens of herbal first aid and medicine making. We cultivate tools to promote our agency and self-determination on how we choose to take and give care. We unpack first aid and assessment, and make a variety of medicines that relate to everyday situations. We break down emotional labor, holding space for ourselves and the ones we are caring for, and practice tools for creating healthy boundaries.
Gather ~ in our fourth chapter we go deep, real and unapologetically into prioritizing inclusive care for our queer, trans, and non-binary selves and communities through a guest lecture by Vilde Chaya Fenster-Ehrlich, story sharing and connecting with the plants and their gifts. We then go on a virtual plant walk to continue deepening our wild identification and botany skills, while observing diverse plant habitats. We later explore ancestral medicine and healing by taking time to prioritize our connections and histories to our ancestors and traditions. We unpack ancestral healing through various guided exercises, journaling, reflection, altar work, storytelling and plant medicine.
Sow ~ in our final chapter, we explore wild foods, tonic & food like herbs, and nutrient density, with food as medicine, eating with the seasons and plant crafting being our main focus. We spend ample time in the virtual kitchen chopping, decocting, and crafting remedies that reflect the change of seasons. Culminating with one final plant walk highlighting our tree friends and their gifts and medicines.
